Located along Hastings Street in North Burnaby, Sushi UOmo is one of the many sushi restaurants in the area trying to make their mark. And they do a good job, with quite a few options for specialty rolls, the standard sushi rolls, and nigiri, and plenty of freshness.
Sushi UOmo on Hastings Street in North Burnaby
The first item we ordered was the Sushi and Sashimi Combo. This beautiful looking creation included 9 pieces of Sashimi, 6 pieces of Salmon or Tuna Roll (you can order half and half), and 10 pieces of Nigiri Sushi “on chef’s creation”. The fish was very fresh and delicious and the variety and sizes were the perfect amount. The high quality of food and the lovely presentation made this one of the better Nigiri / Sashimi combos that I’ve had.

It’s always a treat when one of the specialty rolls is vegetarian. The Funky Vege Roll was impressive as it contained 4 kinds of veggie tempura, avocado, cucumber, yam flake with balsamic sauce on top. It was excellent and the crunchy bits on top were a nice texture, making for a wonderful experience. Certainly, this was one of the best vegetarian rolls we’ve ever had.

One other item worth mentioning was the Avocado Nigiri. Not many restaurants list this item on their menus but it’s another great item for avocado lovers.
Nigiri at Sushi Uomo
The service at Sushi UOmo was excellent as the staff was very friendly and quick. The ambiance of Sushi UOmo was decent, although the large tv on the wall showing the hockey game was a huge distraction at times. There was a fairly steady stream of people coming in for sit down meals and to takeout, so it was fairly busy despite there being plenty of other sushi restaurants within a one-block radius offering competition.
I would definitely return to Sushi UOmo to order the Sushi and Sashimi Combo, the Funky Vege Roll, and to try some other items on the menu. The food was fresh and experience was enjoyable. However, competition is tough in the neighbourhood as there are several other nearby restaurants that offer a lovely experience as well. You’ll have to find your favourite!
