This location of Sushi Garden is located on Kingsway, just west of Highgate Mall. Sushi Garden is known for it’s generous slices of fish on their nigiri sushi. The service is really quick and the restaurant is quite popular, both for dining in and take out.

There are not many specialty rolls on the menu at Sushi Garden but one of the more expensive options we tried was the Rainbow Roll. The roll had tamago, cucumber, and mayonnaise on the inside with different nigiri sushi on top, including tuna, salmon, ebi, hokkigai, tako, and tai. Unfortunately, the Rainbow Roll was not very good, even with all the different fish on top. The roll was quickly made and the pieces were cut really quickly so that different pieces of fish were part of the same roll. It did not taste great and was simply lacking in flavour and any sort of excitement. There are only a few specialty rolls on the menu but best to stick to some of the standard rolls or nigiri.

We ordered the Sashimi and Sushi Combo as Sushi Garden is known for their large cuts of fish on their nigiri. The pieces of Salmon and Tuna were very large and may even be too big for some (it’s really a lot of tuna to eat in one bite!). But they tasted great and all of the Nigiri pieces were excellent too! The combo came with two tuna sashimi, two salmon sashimi, one piece of tuna nigiri, one piece of salmon nigiri, one piece of ebi nigiri, one piece of hokkigai nigiri, and one piece of chopped scallop.

We tried a sushi roll called Bill’s Roll and an Alaska Roll. Bill’s Roll was an odd creation which consisted of smoked salmon, sweet potato, cucumber, lettuce, and fish eggs on top. This roll was too weird and not really a very good combination between the smoked salmon and sweet potato. However, the Alaska Roll was pretty good. It had avocado and cucumber inside and was topped with salmon and some sort of dressing that had a nice flavour to it.

For vegetarian rolls, we ordered the Veggie Roll and the Avocado Roll. The Veggie Roll consists of bell pepper, mango, carrot, avocado, radish, lettuce, and mayonnaise. It wasn’t very good and felt like it had too many things in it which made it difficult to taste anything specific. The Avocado Roll was pretty normal and had a good chunk of the green stuff in it, so it was good.

The highlight of Sushi Garden is the Nigiri and Sashimi. Both are really tasty and the servings are plentiful. The service is also extremely fast but it’s too fast and many of the rolls are made too quickly, either being too big to eat properly, sloppily made, or just not all that good. The restaurant was incredibly busy when we were there and had a huge table of bags for food delivery pickups, so it’s popular. The wait time is not bad though because the service is so quick.

We would go back but will solely order sashimi and nigiri when we do.
