Sushi Giwa is located on Hastings Street on Capitol Hill at the corner of Holdon Street. The restaurant is in a small mall with parking, near the Circle K convenience store. Sushi Giwa has a large menu which includes a variety of specialty rolls and something for everyone.

Something a bit different that we tried was the Sushi Pizza. This interesting concoction is made on deep fried rice, has three types of cheese and a variety of chopped sashimi, and has a sliced tomatoe with roe on the top. It was very tasting and the deep fried rice was similar to an actual pizza crust. The combination of the seafood and cheese was quite tasty and very rich and there was a bit of spice in the sauce. While we really enjoyed this and it was fun to see and order, we felt like it was a bit of a novelty and probably would not order it next time. But it was good!

The Specialty Roll that we ordered was called the Black Dynamite Roll. On the inside of this roll was two deep fried prawns, crab meat, avocado, and cucumber and the roll was topped with a piece of unagi, some unagi sauce, and spicy mayonnaise. This roll was pretty good and very smooth with lots of flavour. The spiciness was a nice feature.

While the Mango Dragon Roll was not on the Specialty Roll list, this sushi roll was really good and should be a specialty roll. On the inside, this roll had yam tempura and avocado and on the outside, there was a big piece of mango, avocado, and mango sauce. This roll was our favourite as avocado and mango are a great mix and the pieces of both were quite large but not too big. This roll is vegetarian.

We also ordered the Mango Roll to compare with the Mango Dragon Roll and the only difference was there was no yam tempura and much less mango and avocado. The Mango Roll was still really tasty though.

Lastly, we ordered a BC Roll. It was also tasty and well presented with some extra sauce drizzle.

One thing that we noticed about our experience at Sushi Giwa is the food and the atmosphere at the restaurant were well presented and you can see that the chefs and staff put a lot of effort into it. All of the food we ordered was beautifully arranged and was not rushed, the portions of the ingredients were the perfect sizes, and the service was quick and very friendly.

Only tuna and sashimi comes raw beef rolls come fully cooked at every location never heard that it’s just seared. Your location obviously doesn’t know what there doing.

I had terrible customer service from your location not to mention the excuse about beef roll being seared and had to be requested to be fully cooked when other sushi places I have ordered from know to fully cook the rolls with no mention of anything having to be requested. Also it’s not my job to say anything when it’s the person who works for you to ask these questions just to be sure the customer knows. I work in a restaurant we never turn down our customers and never refuse to refund them and give them a gift card. We don’t let the guest walk out with the food we messed up either that’s border line disrespectful. I still do want a refund and won’t take no for an answer. Your employees should have menu knowledge when an order is coming through and do there job to make sure the customer is fully satisfied if the order comes in a way the guest isn’t satisfied do something about it to make them leave happy with no excuses. I rate your restaurant a 1/5. Thanks for your service because we won’t be coming back.
