If you’re not looking for Tang Tang Sushi, you won’t notice it. It’s well hidden in a corridor that connects the front and back of the shopping mall on the northwest corner of Kingsway and Willingdon, by the IGA grocery store. The small restaurant is family-run and features a good selection of rolls and cooked items on the menu.
The first thing you notice when you walk in is the list of specialty rolls underneath the cash register. We tried the Crunchie Roll (tempura crumbs, smoked salmon, crab meat, w/ house sauce) and the Mango Paradise Roll (avocado, cucumber, yam tempura, mango on top). The Crunchie Roll was great with a flavourful sauce, a bit of spice, and those yummy bits of crunch tempura sprinkled about. The Mango Paradise Roll wasn’t as good as the yam tempura was a bit hard and tasted old. There was also a separate mango roll on the menu without the tempura, which we will try next time.
In addition, we also ordered the Dynamite Combo which came with a Dynamite Roll and 4 Nigiri (salmon, tuna, tamago, and ebi). It was nothing special but good as they used red salmon eggs which enhanced the presentation nicely.
The service was quick and friendly. There is very limited seating in the restaurant but they also do quite a few takeout orders.
Tang Tang Sushi is not your high-end sushi restaurant but it’s one of the better options when you’re looking for a quick sushi fix, whether sit-in or take-out, and you don’t want to deal with the lineups at the other restaurants around the Metrotown area. We are looking forward to going back and trying some of their other specialty rolls.
