If you go out for sushi in Burnaby often, then you’ve know doubt heard of Sushi Town. It was one of the first locations to open in the lower mainland and they are known for their generous pieces of fish, fast service, and reasonable prices. There is a lineup most nights of the week but on weekends around dinner time, you will probably find yourself waiting on the sidewalk along Hastings Street before getting a seat inside.
Located on Hastings Street between Holdom and Kensington in what feels like the middle of nowhere, the restaurant has a warm but busy feel to it. There is bench seating along the outer edges of the room and tables down the middle but the restaurant is relative small for the number of people it feeds daily. They also run a takeout service too but they do not deliver.
We enjoy the BC Roll, Dynamite Rolls, and Avocado Rolls but what makes Sushi Town special is their Salmon and Tuna Nigiri. The pieces of fish are much larger than most places and at a relatively cheap price. The Scallop and Tobiko Nigiri, a seaweed wrap of scallop flavour, is delicious too.
One complaint is that the sushi rolls often fall apart or are too big. This is from a lack of attention in making the sushi, probably because the restaurant is so busy and the chefs are rushing to meet all the orders. This occurred with a couple of the rolls we had which made them difficult to eat.
Complaints aside, the food is good and Sushi Town is relatively cheap and satisfying for what you get. You know what they say about a busy restaurant.
