Located at the Production Way Skytrain station along Lougheed Highway, this stop serves as the main service route to SFU and Sushi Kaku is one of only a few options to eat. They don’t have a very large menu and the ambiance inside is pretty dull but the food is made quickly as their audience is clearly people passing through who are in a rush or want a quick lunch to take back to some of the nearby offices.
They do have a list of special rolls and we decided to try two of them. First was the Kiiro Roll which consisted of deep fried BBQ eel. It wasn’t that spectacular and pretty bland as BBQ eel is probably more tasteful in its normal form. The second specialty roll we ordered was the Akai Roll which was made of spicy tuna and was beautifully topped with salmon and avocado. This roll tasted really good and extra points for presentation as it was drizzled in colourful sauces.
We also ordered a Yam and Avocado Roll and a Goma-ae Roll which were just ok. Again, nothing special but exactly what we were expecting from a restaurant in this location dealing with the typical passing crowd.
With the food options only being Subway, Megabite Pizza, or a sit-down cafe just north of Production Way station, those in a rush might best choose some sushi at Sushi Kaku. Service is relatively quick, hopefully quick enough to now miss the bus heading up Burnaby Mountain.
