With lineups during lunch and dinner most days, Sushi Garden on Lougheed Highway next to Staples is a very busy restaurant. They serve delicious sushi with a good selection of rolls, nigiri, and sashimi.

The popular items at Sushi Garden are the sashimi and nigiri as the portion of fish is quite large. We tried the Salmon and Tuna Sashimi and loved it, as well as an assortment of Nigiri that included a very delicious Chopped Scallop. Other notable rolls that we liked were the Dynamite Roll, the Alaska Roll, and the Vegetable Roll, which was well balanced with mango and red pepper in it. It was amazing to watch the steady stream of Sashimi orders that were coming out from the kitchen as these dishes were obviously the most popular.

We decided to experiment and try one of the fancier rolls called the Island Roll, which has cooked tuna, fish flakes, and kiwi sauce in it. It tasted strange and we were not impressed, so it’s clear that sticking to generic sushi at Sushi Garden is the way to go.

The Island Roll, with cooked tuna, kiwi and fish flakes, sounded like a better idea than it actually was

The service was really quick overall, although it felt like we were being rushed through like a herd of cattle so they could free up the table for the next patrons. Within 5 minutes of sitting down and quickly browsing the menu, we had been asked 3 times if we were ready to order, service that is a little too good. With a restaurant this busy, it’s no wonder they have strict rules about not seating parties of 4 or more when not everyone is there.

Be very cautious of the parking spots and their labels in the lower parking lot as there is often someone ticketing vehicles who park in the Staples or Churches Chicken spots. To be certain, park in the lot on the roof.

The food at Sushi Garden is great and the service is good but get there early if you don’t want to wait, otherwise takeout might be a better option.

I’ve been there about 8 or 10 times in the past 2 years. They’re fairly decent when they first opened. Last 6 months or so, all the rules seem to fall apart. Not just me but some of my neighbors also

    .
so i have been eating here now for the last several sushi outings.

the food has always been fresh, and the quality amazing for the prices and portions that you receive.

i have eaten in 3 times, and taken out 4 times.

there is usually a long wait time, unless you go at non-rush hours.

lately i have been grabbing take out.

tonight, i called to find out what time they closed., and was informed that the internet time of 11pm is incorrect. and that they actually close at 10pm.

i asked when was last call., i was told last call is 10pm, but we close at 1030pm.

okay.., so i get off from work at 955pm, i place my call as soon as i get to my car, they pick up the phone it’s 958pm, and the girl quickly informs me that they are closed.

after a very long discussion, where i even asked to speak to the manager, but was told that their “manager doesnt speak english, so what should i do now, do you still want to try to communicate with him???

i asked to speak to the guy who answered the phone 9pm and told me that i had until 10pm to place my order…, the phone was handed over to someone who said, i don’t know what i can do for you now, we are closed, i didn’t know that you were going to wait until 10pm to call to place an order, when i told him that i called at 958pm he asked me to next time not to wait until so late to call.

i explained to both people, you either close at 10pm, last call is either at 10pm, or…, it’s whenever the hell you guys feel like it…., regardless…, just tell people, so that they can plan their lives better around you guys.

    totally unprofessional.
the place is run like a high school joint.
call takers, cashiers, waiters, and waitresses, that think the whole thing is just one big joke.

here’s the kicker…., the jokes on us, because we the consumers of their fine foods, keep coming back for more…, so yeah…, they laugh at us, and speak in their own languages, and talk about us, and they think they’re better then us.

if we the consumer want better service, then we need to do a better job of showing businesses like this one, what we think of their customer service attitude.

perhaps a social media blitz on boycott of tipping at this location starting on sunday, march 06, 2016 as soon as they open.

and if that doesn’t get their attention, then maybe a social media blitz on a complete restaurant boycott for one full week starting the week of sunday, march 13, 2016.

we are constantly spending our hard earned money on places that either lack quality, quantity, or service…, it’s time we hold onto our money, and show these businesses the likes of sushi garden lougheed, who is really the boss, because if we really wanted to, we could put them out of business.

sushi garden lougheed, if you’re listening, you’re only as good as the last order you served, or the last call you took.

consider this your one and only warning.

the power of social media knows no boundaries.

While I agree with some of what is said above – such as the food is good, we have ordered from that location many, many times and they have never screwed up our order….yet! But under those circumstances, I would be pissed also, especially with the lack of any desire to fix the situation or even apologize.

We order sushi once a month while we are at work nearby the Lougheed location. At least 50% of the time they screw up the order. Today I happened to pickup takeout to take home for my wife and I. I specified clearly that my wife is vegetarian and ordered yam tempura rolls and I specified vegetarian and keep the vegetarian order separate. I drove all the way home to Richmond (40 minute drive with traffic) on a friday evening and found that the yam tempura rolls have fish eggs on them. I called them back right away and explained to them that I had clearly specified vegetarian and any sushi restaurant you go to does NOT put fish eggs on yam tempura. The lady on the phone (Servers abbreviated name on receipt: So-Young) replied back at me saying I did not say vegetarian to her when she took the order. I know they have some really dumb waitresses working there, but to call me a liar on the phone outright pissed me off. I asked to speak to a manager over the phone and she said you don’t need to speak to a manager. I told her I drove all the way home and that this food would go to waste. Her reply was that I should’ve known and told them when I ordered. Again I asked to speak to a manager and she kept on refusing. She kept saying that I did not specify I wanted vegetarian. My request to speak to a manager was denied 5 times. I asked her about getting compensated or refunded, at first she said no and that I should know better next time I order. After a few minutes she said I can return the items before they close (like Im going to drive 30-40 minutes to come back and return it – not like Im going to be compensated for gas). This lady has no common sense at all.
Only good thing I have to say is the food is decent and the chef’s are pretty good, other than that the service is beyond terrible and even after repeating the order 3+ times on the phone they still get it wrong.
This is not the first time they have screwed up orders and Im sure it won’t be the last either. I’ve had my order screwed up so many times that I decided enough is enough and I need to post this.
If anyone does know who the manager is or can manage to get a hold of him/her, I would like to call them and file an official complaint.
