Okoman Sushi Restuarant is located on the other side of Cameron Street on the north side of Lougheed Mall in the bottom of a small mall area with plenty of parking. The restaurant is quite large and has a section of tables where curtains can be pulled across for privacy, for those wanting that.
The “regular” sushi is decent but it’s their specialty rolls where they excel. We ordered the Crispy Roll (2 pieces of prawn tempura, cucumber, avocado, and cream peanut sauce on top) and the Okoman Special Roll (deep fried scallop, eel, and cucumber topped with crispy powder, tobiko, and unagi sauce) and both specialty rolls were excellent! The fish was fresh, the sauces and toppings were unique, and the rolls were both well presented on their plates, with sauce drizzled in patterns alongside the rolls. We also ordered some vegetarian rolls, including the Avocado Roll, Asparagus Roll, and Yam Tempura Rolls and these were your typical tasting sushi rolls, nothing special.
The menu is quite large and also includes quite a list of items from the kitchen. We ordered the Bacon Wrapped Scallops on Skewers from the Appetizer section and these were really incredible. Again, well presented on the plate, well cooked but not overdone, and just enough sauce to make that perfect mix of flavours.
One of the great things about Okoman is that it is open later than all of the other nearby sushi restaurants, to 11pm on Mondays to Thursdays and to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. The late night convenience ensures that we’ll be back in the future when we’re in the area.
