Located along Canada Way, a block east of Boundary in the Cascade Heights neighbourhood, Nu Sushi Bar serves a variety of Japanese fare. The location has limited seating and it seems that their primary business is takeout and food delivery services, however the prices are a bit cheaper in comparison to other local sushi restaurants.

Nu Sushi Bar has a fairly decent sized list of specialty rolls, so we tried the Angel Kiss Roll, which a spicy tuna roll with cucumber and avocado inside and scallops on top. The roll was very tasty and well made, with just he right amount of spice.

The vegetarian specialty roll that we tries was the Mango Dragon Roll. The roll consists of yam tempura and avocado on the inside and topped with mango and sauce. The combination of mango and avocado go really well together with their smooth textures and both being quite flavourful. We really enjoyed this roll and was one of the best items we ordered.

For comparison, we ordered the Mango Maki Roll which was a much smaller roll and consisted of mango and some sauce. While it certainly was not as good as the Mango Dragon Roll, for the cheaper price, this was a really good sushi roll.

Not on the specialty list was the Deep Fried Salmon Avocado Cheese Roll. This is one of those rolls that is best eaten when it’s still slightly warm. This roll was excellent and the deep fried salmon inside was very tasty.

We also ordered a few items from the kitchen, including Agedashi Tofu and some Spring Rolls and we did not like either of these. The Agedashi Tofu was too soggy and the Spring Rolls just did not taste that great.

In terms of ambience, this restaurant is probably not the best to sit in as there are only three tables with a shelf full of takeout containers on one side of the room and cardboard boxes full of containers on the other side. The restaurant was clean, just not well presented and it appears that the bulk of their customers order takeout or through various food delivery services. Overall, the prices were a bit cheaper at Nu Sushi Bar compared to several other nearby Japanese restaurants.

If we lived in the neighbourhood, this would be a great takeout restaurant due to their pretty good sushi and lower prices. It’s not really a dine in restaurant, so not sure we will return, unless we happen to be in the area and need some takeout.
