Town Centre Sushi

Town Centre Sushi

The only remotely possible reason for noticing this sushi restaurant is that you have entered or exited the Lougheed Skytrain Station from the bus loop side during the day or evening. Even then, you would have to step inside this “corner store” to even notice that in the back corner is a sushi bar with a few seats. Most of the sushi is pre-made and sold up front in a refrigerated display, however if the sushi chef is on duty, you can take a seat at the bar and he’ll gladly made anything from the menu for you.

Gomae Roll at Sushi Kaku

Located at the Production Way Skytrain station along Lougheed Highway, this stop serves as the main service route to SFU and Sushi Kaku is one of only a few options to eat. They don’t have a very large menu and the ambiance inside is pretty dull but the food is made quickly as their audience is clearly people passing through who are in a rush or want a quick lunch to take back to some of the nearby offices.

Crunchy Roll at Yo Sushi

Yo Sushi on Hastings Street in North Burnaby opened in late 2012 to plenty of fanfare in the local community newspapers. It’s located next to the famous Antons Pasta Restaurant but you won’t have to stand outside in the cold for an hour waiting to get in. The menu has a large selection of sushi, kitchen items, and combos but it’s the full page of specialty rolls that stands out.

Sushi Moto is a small, funky restaurant tucked away next to the Holdom Skytrain Station off of Lougheed Highway. The restaurant has an interesting selection of sushi and other Japanese inspired menu items as well as quite the collection of characters and other figurinesĀ  in a display case and decorating the walls.

Dragon Roll at Izumi Sushi in Metrotown

Izumi Sushi is located in the food court at Metrotown Mall and was great for a quick japanese food fix while taking a break from Christmas shopping. We were expecting a fairly standard menu of items, which they have, but to our surprise, they also had several specialty rolls and some kitchen items as well.

Panda Roll at Hong Sushi

Located on East Hastings in Burnaby, one-block east of Kensington Mall, Hong Sushi isĀ  a hole-in-the-wall with just a few tables and stools along the front window. However, don’t let the tiny place fool you as the sushi is very good and they run a very busy takeout service with a fairly large menu of choices.

Gyoza at Little Tokyo's Sushi

I’ve heard a lot of people talk about Little Tokyo’s Sushi in North Burnaby along Hastings Street so it was about time we tried this restaurant. The menu has a large number of Bento Boxes, Combos, and Main Courses which include teriyaki meat options with rice and stir-fry vegetables. It seems that a lot of people order these meals, however there is still a full page of sushi rolls and nigiri offering a wide assortment of food options.

Dragon Roll at Black Dragon

With a big, red “grand opening” sign on the front, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to eat at Black Dragon Sushi on Kingsway. The restaurant is located 1-block east of Metrotown on the other side of Kingsway from the London Drugs and is one of about half-a-dozen sushi restaurants within a few minutes radius of each other. With the stiff nearby competition, Black Dragon Sushi tries to separate themselves with their selection of specialty sushi rolls.

Sui Sha Ya has been in business for longer than most all-you-can-eat (AYCE) sushi restaurants in Burnaby. The restaurant is located in Metrotown Shopping Center on the east side of the mall on the lower level, just outside The Bay. They have a reasonably priced AYCE lunch menu as well as a dinner menu with more deluxe items. They also have a regular menu of items with several specialty rolls, nigiri, and other entrees of interest.
