Kawawa Japanese Restaurant is one of the better all-you-can-eat (AYCE) sushi restaurants around the Metrotown area. The restaurant is located on the 2nd floor, inside Metrotown Mall near the theatres.

We actually went to this restaurant twice within a couple of weeks, the first time ordering off the menu and the second time trying the AYCE. Most people go to Kawawa for the AYCE and it was certainly better than some of the other places we’ve tried. They have a decent selection and the portions are fairly small, so I didn’t feel as though I was filling up mainly on rice. The selection was fairly good, with a large number of rolls and no limits on sashimi and the food came out fairly quickly, although they missed certain items, so we had to ask before reordering to make sure we didn’t get two plates of the same dish.

Ordering off the menu was a good experience too. They have a large selection of boats which look impressive and have a variety of rolls, tempura, sashimi, and other items on them. We tried the Vegetarian Boat and it came with a Vegetable Roll, Asparagus Roll, Kapa Roll, Inari, Seaweed Salad, and Vegetable Tempura. The sushi was good, not mind-blowing but not bad either.

Despite being located in a mall, the interior and setting of Kawawa was really nice and laid back. There was a smaller water pond at the entrance and the mood lighting was nice inside. The service was quick and they staff were friendly to us and happy to answer any questions we had about the menu. The only issue was we didn’t get all of the AYCE items we ordered during the first round but they were quick to fix it when I brought it up.

We really enjoyed both experiences but were most impressed by the boats and their spectacular presentation. The all-you-can-eat was definitely above average compared to others in the neighbourhood.

Terrible experience!!! Staff are worst customer service. Don’t even smile and not listening carefully to what has been said that cost me more. Pay for 13.95 only but tried to charge of 23.95 for eat all you can, because of not paying attention to the customer. Manager did not even correct it. Wants only money not the customer. She wanted to me to pay for 2 beef steak cost 18 dollar. instead of paying 23.95. What a horrible experience. It’s my anniversary but got ruined because of the bad service.
