Located along Kingsway, east of Metrotown near Royal Oak Avenue, Sushi Bella has a funky decor inside and some creative and delicious tasting sushi. While new to the Burnaby area in mid-2015, the restaurant has several other locations located throughout the Metro Vancouver region and, therefore, is no newcomer to the sushi scene.

Y Sushi is located along Edmonds Street near Kingsway and has a variety of sushi options for lunch, dinner, and takeout. Conveniently in walking distance from High Gate Mall, there were a few items on their menu that that were different from other sushi restaurants, giving a sense of new things to try!
Tucked away along North Road near the intersection with Cameron Street, Japolo Sushi is easily missed as it’s located within the upper portion of a small strip mall where the parking lot is only accessible by heading southbound on North Road (confusing?). To further make things far from obvious, the restaurant is located in the back corner and the signs also advertise Pho and noodle soup. Despite the geographic challenges, if you’re in the neighbourhood near North Road or Lougheed Mall, Japolo is worth finding and trying as they have a variety of delicious sushi on their menu.

Located along Hastings Street in North Burnaby, Sushi UOmo is one of the many sushi restaurants in the area trying to make their mark. And they do a good job, with quite a few options for specialty rolls, the standard sushi rolls, and nigiri, and plenty of freshness.

Located on the 2nd level of High Gate Village (near the Save On Foods entrance) along east Kingsway, Fresh Box Sushi is a tiny hole-in-the-wall. The sushi restaurant primarily provides take-out as there are only 10 chairs at a few tables to sit in the cramped quarters with a few additional tables outside. We did decide to eat inside though but the atmosphere was not enjoyable as we had to push two small tables together to make enough room for three people, there was a huge pool of soy sauce on the floor, a constant stream of people coming in to order and pickup food, and you had to stand up and order at the cash register. Aside from this, let’s talk about the food.

Miki Sushi is located just west of the Petro Canada on the north side of Lougheed, just past the intersection with Willingdon in the Brentwood Mall area. The parking out front is very limited and usually crammed with people trying to get to Starbucks. They have a very decent selection of Japanese food on their menu, which includes several specialty rolls and vegetarian options.

Sushi Garden on Kingsway across from Metrotown is one of the busiest sushi restaurants in Burnaby. An busy generally means it must be good, right? Well, in this case that might hold true is the sushi is pretty good and certainly good value for the cost. However, don’t expect a fine dining experience as it feels like everyone is running on high adrenaline to meet the number of orders and the large crowd sitting and waiting along the front window.
